Thursday October 31st, 2019

Vernissage:

Sat Sep 21st, 2019 — 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

Donald Harrington Monet is an Ottawa artist and curator. His creative practice focuses mainly on landscape, photo-collage and found-object paintings. This show features photo-collage paintings that draw heavily on family travel photos and iconic landscapes.

"I use familiar geography and family as subjects," he says. "Similar to holiday snapshots, this body of work captures those precious, fleeting moments of life and family." Playing scrabble or dipping a paddle in the water can be both commonplace and magnificent. Monet captures these moments by taking a series of photographs, then creating "scenes" much like a film maker would. He then uses traditional landscape techniques in acrylic to blend and unify the painting with the photography allowing the viewer to see the edges of transition, the margins between paint and photo.

Don will also be part of the West End Studio Tour. which takes place September 21-22 and Sept. 22-29 in West Wellington, Westboro and Hintonburg.
